Talking Book Services, offered by the South Carolina State Library, provides free library access for individuals with visual, physical, or print disabilities that hinder their ability to read standard print books. Operating as a regional branch of the National Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, this program delivers digital audio and braille reading materials directly to patrons' homes, ranging from young children to the elderly.
Patrons receive books on digital cartridges, digital talking-book players, and braille books via the U.S. mail at no cost. Additionally, users can download books and magazines in audio or braille format to their personal devices.
HCML Librarians are available to both help with and certify the application.
