The Horry County Memorial Library understands that mobile devices are an indispensable part of patrons’ lives and may be required for use in the Library. The Library also understands that other patrons may need the Library for the quiet environment it can provide.

In order to enable an environment where all patrons are comfortable and welcome, mobile devices are permitted in all library locations under the following guidelines:

·       Ringers should be set to vibrate or low volume upon entering the library.

·       Cell phone conversations should be conducted quietly. If the volume of the conversation is disrupting other patrons’ usage of the library, the speaking patron may be asked by staff to relocate to somewhere else in the library.

·       Cell phone conversations within the library should be kept to a minimum. If the conversation requires more time, patrons may be asked by staff to move to an area of the library away from other patrons.

·       Cell phone conversations must follow the Library’s Public Conduct Policy. If the conversation violates the policy, the patron can be asked by a staff member to take their conversation outside or to end the conversation.

·       If a patron moves to take a phone call, staff are not responsible for any belongings left behind.

Refusal to follow this policy may result in the patron being required to leave the library.

The Library Director is responsible for the establishment and administration of this policy.
